How to Apply The Elements That Go Into The Creation of Environments for Theatre Performances

Students will be aware of the elements that go into the creation of environments for theatre performances.




Students will be able to:

  • create set designs illustrating concepts for staging productions and incorporating types stages.
  • create lighting design to reflect the mood and environment of the play or scene.
  • design costumes and make-up models for various scenes and characters in a play.
  • design or compose sound and music to create mood and atmosphere relevant to script or scene.

Students may:

  • using realism or symbolism in a scene from a play, create a set design producing a floor plan and three dimensional model
  • work with a scripted scene, e.g., the Witches' scene from Macbeth, and create lighting design to enhance theme, actions, motives
  • use house lights/ceiling classroom lights to cue entrances and exits, moments of dramatic tension and transition blackouts for a scene.
  • in groups, design costumes for different characters using paper, fabric, and found materials
  • choose a scene from a play:  a design a sequence of vocal sound effects, designs a sequence of vocal sound effects, design a sequence of off-stage sound effects, choose a piece of music (taped or live) to create mood and atmosphere
